National Hydration Day

National Hydration Day is celebrated annually on June 23 in the United States, dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of staying hydrated and promoting healthy hydration habits for all ages. Proper hydration is essential for maintaining overall health and well being. Water is vital for various bodily functions such as regulating body temperature, lubricating joints and transporting nutrients. When the body does not receive an adequate amount of water, it can lead to dehydration which can have negative effects on physical and cognitive performance.

Tips to meet your hydration goals

  1. Hydrate when you wake up
Drinking water right when you wake up is a great way to start your morning and meet your hydration goals.

  2. Eat your water
Many fruits and vegetables contain a lot of water and will help supplement hydration. Some hydrating foods to incorporate into your diet include cucumbers, tomatoes, celery, watermelon, zucchini, strawberries, spinach, melon, kale, peaches and carrots (1).

  3. Keep track of hydration on your smartphone
Downloading a “hydration” app can help you track your water intake and keep you motivated. Apps can send you notification reminders, track your water intake and help set daily goals.

  4. Choose a reusable bottle
Carrying a reusable water bottle with you can help not only serve as a reminder to drink more water, but it also helps the environment by minimizing single-use plastic bottles.

  5. Infuse with flavor
Add fruit to your water to switch things up. Lemons, limes, oranges, cucumber and strawberries all pair well with water.
